ANNOUNCEMENT: Now accepting Applications for Summer Interns (Washington, DC Metro Area)

The Tharwa Foundation is seeking qualified applicants for Summer Program Interns, for a TV series addressing issues of democracy, diversity, and political reform in Syria and the broader Middle East. Tharwa is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, founded by Syrian human rights activist Ammar Abdulhamid, dedicated to providing a supportive environment for democratic principles and practices in the Broader Middle East and North Africa region through programs that encourage inter-communal dialogue.

Duration of Internship 

June 2, 2008 through August 29, 2008, with potential to be evaluated for additional contractual work after internship is completed 

Intern Responsibilities 

  • Assist with concept development, program planning, and logistics/administration for TV series
  • Backstop communications with Tharwa project staff, organizational partners, program guests and advisors
  • Expected commitment of 20 hours / week. Monthly stipend of $1,000 to be provided to cover a portion of living expenses and transportation costs.

Qualifications 

  • Self-starter, motivated, with background in international affairs, political science, communications, Middle East regional studies, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Word Processing / MS Office; experience with video production and editing a plus.
  • Proficiency in the Arabic language preferred.
